i have over 5000 pics etc in my E drive on my laptop and i think its making it very slow so i have attached an external memory box and want to transfer pics over. quite alot of pics arent in folders so instead of transferring things over individually or putting them into folders first nb im sure there is a quick way to doing this but i dont know how! is it therefore possible to go to computer then copy the e drive and paste it into d: then delete all pics from E?

If you view either thumbnails or a list of all the photo files then move the cursor to the bottom right of the block you wish to copy then hold the left mouse key down while you drag the cursor over the whole batch ie upwards and left, you should find that ALL the files are then edged or highlighted in blue .... you can then either right click and copy then paste elsewhere, or use CTRL + C to copy and CTRL + V to paste elsewhere ... but for God's sake paste them elsewhere and check they are visible in new location first before deleting the original filles (CTRL + X to cut/delete them - or use right click and cut) otherwise you will then need to be looking for them in the trash can!! Hope this helps.... very difficult to explain without being able to show you.
Yes, it is possible to copy the whole drive's content to another drive but this also copies the operating system folders and program bits and pieces.

If the pictures are all in .jpg format you could do a search and copy those only to a new drive.

The amount of pictures or any information you have stored on your drive will only make a difference to the computer's speed if that drive is near it's capacity.
5000 pictures is nothing on a modern drive.

Is is usually the numbers of programs and monitoring that are running at the same time in the background that slow things down.
Defragmenting the drive sometimes helps to speed things up, a bit.
Storing things on your hard drive doesn't make your computer slow - why would you thing that it does?
Yeah, Rojash is right, and to be honest, 5000 pics is nothing.

Suggest you try other things too like defragging, or getting something like window washer.

As for transferring, it is very easy. Just highlight what you want, copy, and then paste in the other drive.
