When the loo is flushed or water taps are turned off a clanking, ( banging or groaning), noise can be heard for a couple of seconds. It started off small a couple of weeks ago and has progressed to a longer and louder noise.

Can any of you lovely AB`ers please shed any light on this situation?

Thanks, Tina

If the ballcock and valve in your main water tank are plastic, it could be caused by a slightly sticky valve. Iy used to happen here, usually when the temperature changed and we could feel the main inlet pipe vibrating. I replaced the ballcock and valve with a copper one and we haven't had the problem since.

Buenchico, Huderon: Many thanks for your speedy responses. (I`m always recommending AB to friends on account of the generosity and wealth of knowledge of its members). I`m indebted to both of you and think that my problem is just about solved!

If there are ever any questions you need answering, in the field of the paranormal, I`d be glad to help if I can.
If your incoming water main passes through an ancient Indian burial ground, it could be caused by the angry spirits of the dead. You best course of action is to contact a fat midget Mexican with a tennis ball.

Aha! Methinks we have a disbeliever here.

Never mind, Rojash, hasta manana, and thanks for the input anyway.
Hey Tina, sorry lass, can't help with your prob, but just wanted to say I'm glad to 'see' you - was worried in case you were ill.

Haven't noticed you around on AB (mind you, I'm not on very often these days).

Rollo, thanks, that`s the right phrase and

Mrs Chappie, nice to see you again. I`ve had some life-changing events this last year, with priorities changing, but I come on here when I can, and, I haven`t forgotten the photo!

See you, Tina x
Just glad to know you are okay Tina.

Hope your life-changing events haven't caused you too much stress. xxx

Well, actually, Mrs Chappie, they have. My B.P. is way up on the moon and just doesn`t want to come down., no matter what I do. Ah well, que sera sera.

By the by, Mrs C, you don`t call yourself CHAPPIE on another forum, do you? They just sounded like you.

Bye for now, Tina xx
Howdy Tina!

Hey, sorry to read about your high BP lass. That aside, hope you're feeling good in yourself.

Sometimes I am chappie on here. It was my original username. I changed it to mrs.chappie so it would be obvious that I am a woman. chappie is still active though, the Ed never removed the name, despite several requests from me to do so, and AB signs me in as chappie. So I sign out and sign in as mrs.chappie. Except when I forget.

Anyhoo, I've not had much time lately to come on t'internet, and when I do, I usually come on AB, so I don't think you'd have seen me on another site, unless the posts are quite old. What is the name of the site in question? I'd like to have a look. I did register on the Twitter thing, to see what it was all about, but wasn't impressed with it. Think I only posted once or twice.
Question Author
Sorry, Mrs C, I should have said. It`s CROSSWORD CLUE SOLVER and the best one I`ve come across.

Must rush away now, more later, Tina x
Hey Tina, deffo not me ....... Haven't been on any Crossword sites.

Hope to catch you later, doll. xx
Water hammer. I have experienced this twice recently. At home, we changed the ballcock. At work we fixed the problem by clamping the loose pipes in the attic.
Question Author
Kenzie, thanks for that. I`ll look into it.

Cheers, Tina
if it happens on all the taps its more likey to be the jumperwasher on the main stopcock that needs changing.
Question Author
Gucciman, Wow, another solution. I`m overwhelmed, thanks to all. And I STILL haven`t done anything about it yet. I`m probably just putting off going into the (spooky) attic if I have to.

Will let you know when it`s done,
Cheers, Tina
