For months now, I've been having trouble with the boiler!
Its worked fine for 3 years and now.... very odd... it works, heats up, still get hot water but it 'clicks' on and off constantly. Even when I've switched it to 'off' on the thermostate control!?!?!?
Please be patient with my explanation as I know NOTHING about boilers!!!
Basically, it keeps switching itself on and off.... it'll 'light up' (when the flame shows up) and then within seconds it'll switch off again.
I've had 2 different gas engineers come and look at the boiler and they have suggested 3 different things that could be wrong.
One has said the thermostate within the boiler might be broken, so its constantly turning itself back on and off - quote for this around 200. He also said the 'fan' within the boiler could be broken - which means that the boiler is not cooling down as it should - quote 120.
One has said the thermostate within the 'box on the wall' (where I can adjust the temperature) is too sensitive and needs replacing - quote for this around 150.
Both said it needed servicing/cleaning... so one of them done that for me... no change.
I really don't know what to do... I can't afford to just throw away 150-200 if its not going to work.
Any recommendations would be gratefully accepted.
If you have any other questions, I'll try to answer them in my best 'I know nothing about boilers' way!
Hi, I am not a gas fitter but its sounds like the safety cut off, Its either your Cut off telling the Thermostat there is a problem, This is only an assumption.
what make and model boiler do you have? we had a similar problem with a potterton supreme combin boiler and it turns out to be a problem with the design of the boiler as the PCB is not heat shielded from the flue. this causes the circuitry to overheat and fail.
