i have a education website which i want to upload to the net. Do i need to register the company? if so, what do i put down as my registered office since i dont have one and doing everything from home?
You only need to register a company if it's to be 'limited by guarantee'. (i.e. it will be a 'limited company). You can have any address you choose (including your home address) as the registered office, as long as any legal documents can be served upon the company at that address. http://www.companieshouse.gov.uk/infoAndGuide/ companyRegistration.shtml
Just to clarify the term 'Limited by guarantee' is NOT synonymous with the term 'Limited Company'. A company 'Limited by Shares' is also a Limited Company and much more likely to be what you'd set up as a private individual, though if your aims are charitable and non-profit making you might set up a company Limited by guarantee. Would need to be a board of trustees though.
