My boyfriend would like to join the police. None of the forces are recruiting at the moment so he has applied to be a Special Constable with Merseyside police in order to gain some experience before recruitment begins.

Eventually he would like to join Greater Manchester police. The websites say that you can only apply to one force at a time. Does anyone know if he will be able to apply to GM police when he's already a SC with Merseyside?! Or will this mean he can't apply for GM?

Any advice would be great

Surely you are better asking his employers?

They will give you the definitve answer.
why does anyone want to be a copper - the cr@p they take from every side?
(my dad was one ... said he'd break my legs rather than let me join)

I think it means yo can only have one application in the system at a time - civilian to be a copper

... if he's successful I'm pretty sure then it's a transfer - copper moving rather than civilian joining

but vhg is right ... give them a ring
Pity hes not black or asian theyd soon take him on
suggest he asks the recruitment part of GMP when they are recuiting and if they operate a "positive discrimination" policy. If they are vague on this use the freedom of information act to force them and refer the answer given if they do to the race relations board and don`t take no for an answer.
If he is a special the local coppers should be able to give him info on vacancies all over the place.
