how do u get rid of unwnted telephone calls and has anyone got a phone number to get rid of same

Signing up with TPS usually stops a lot of UK based canvassers but foreign based ones will still get through. See here;

it takes a month after signing up with TPS for it to kick in,but it does work on a majority of UK companys, it doesnt filter out the people who just trawl through the phone book though , but explaining you are with TPS and they are risking a �50,000 fine is quite amusing..

Answer the phone, set on mute so they can chat away. Disconnect at least 10mins after or longer to run up their phone bill.

I set my mum up on it and she got a call a few days later from them asking for a registration fee!

Hi luglas, as pauln says sign up with the Telephone Preference Service and it will stop the majority of these unwanted calls. Don't know how cassa's mum got call asking for reg fee as it is a free service. Another way to help stop them is by having your name taken off the Electoral Register, as a lot of companies buy the names and numbers from them. You can phone your county council and get them to take your name off it. It does take a while for them to remove it but it does help stop a lot of the calls.

Is removing your name from the Electoral register free Shedman?
Doesn't doing so cause problems with getting credit etc?
