as above says, no, but it is not a blu ray DVD player you need, it's just a blu ray player, they are not DVD's

"ordinairy" DVD players use a RED laser to read the data, Blu Ray players use a BLUE laser (hence the name).

A blue laser can have a narrower beam and hence read smaller data (so more data can be stored on a blu ray disk).

A Blu Ray player CAN play DVD disks.
