cheap telephone calls

How come some companies are able to offer cheap telephone calls to India where you dial a 0871number and then at a prompt you dial the international number. It is only 7 p a min. what lines do they use as the calls dont connect all the time and the reception is not great. But it does the job and a darn sight better than paying 40 p a min.

They route the calls over the net using VOIP (Voice over I P).  Try downloading Skype from www.skype.com.  You can buy credit and call phones all over the world using a headset and mic on your PC.  If you call someone else who uses skype then it is completely free.  So if you're freinds/relatives in India get Skype too then you'll rue the day you ever spent 7p a minute.

Maybe those are VoIP cards from Net2Phone as they depends on the quality of the internet connection. Companies like www.ringcentral.co.uk that are business phone system providers offers an alternative like virtual calling cards.
