Anyone know a cheap dialling number to phone australia from the usa and vice versa and also from the states to the uk?

if you have broadband internet at both ends have you considered VOIP (phone calls over the internet) SKYPE are the most well known but there are others

I use it to chat to people in America often and after initial investment in the phones it's totally free

yes, i have skype but im having problems unmuting the mute button, i have posted this problem elsewhere but hasnt helped.so in the meantime im looking for cheap options. thanks for your reply.

Go to Martin Lewis website or "it pays to watch". Also there is number - have a look at their website 18185 this is the one we use.

Like surfydude we use 18185 for all outging calls and have saved a fortune in costs. ie. all calls cost 4p to connect then you can talk all day if you want at no extra cost.
A call to australia will cost the initial 4p the 1p per minute.
The best way to use this system is join 18185 then program all of your phones memory buttons with the prefix 18185
