Internet Explorer now wont work

I hav eWin Xp and use Mozilla as a browser. I have an Icon for IE6 on my desktop which I have not used for a couple of yeras. But I felt like using it. But when I click on the icon to load, the PC restarts!!
Whats the problem. Should I download latest IE ? Do I have to uninstall the old one?
Any ideas as to the cause of restart and installing new one?

Considering that Google has just announced that it intends to start phasing out support for IE6, you'd be better off getting IE8, just don't make it your defualt as it's just a cheap and nasty copy of Firefox.

Thanks. So if I wanted a 2nd browser, what would you recommend? Do I need 2 browers?
