Accepting delivery not for me

When I got home from work yesterday there was a card from HDNL saying they had tried to delivery a parcel. We weren't expecting anything and the delivery driver had not written anything in the name or address box so I called them this morning and they confirmed the address on the parcel was my address but they gave me a name of someone I have never heard of. They said they will try to re-deliver again today and tomorrow so when they come, should I accept it even though I know it's not for me? There is a chance it could be my nextdoor neighbour as I have know idea what her name is.

How about tapping on your neighbours door and explaining to them that you think a parcel for them might be misaddressed with your address.

don't tell them the name on the parcel but ask what their name is, if it matches then either accept it for them and drop it round, or send the driver to the neighbour when they turn up.
Unless the driver can tell you who it's meant for then I wouldn't take it.

If you are kind, talk to your neighbour, otherwise just refuse delivery. We had something similar but it was through the mail, right address, wrong name (but close to ours), opened it and it was some very sussy looking drugs...took them to the cop shop.
could it be a christmas parcel for a previous tenant/owner.

if it had my address and a different name, i would just send it back/refuse to accept it.

I want to be a nice neighbour and take it in in case it is for my neighbour but their car hasn't been around the past couple of days so I don't think they are home. Trying to think of someone I know who might know what their names are.
Post office?

I know you have sorted it out now but if you have a regular postman for letters ( not parcels ) they usually know everyones name on their round . I have often had to ask them and they always have had the answer.
