I'd go for Dell (or possibly HP) but I know nothing - why don't you browse the web on PC World etc just to get an idea and reviews.

Havn;t been able to destroy my Toshiba, in spite of its hard life. As to pre- installed anti virus. Don't they need paying for after a while. Free Antivir is good and updates when you start each session.

You are unlikely to get Word, Excel, Powerpoint pre-installed, only a 60 day trial.

You can buy Microsoft Office Home and Student 2010 (which includes the above) for about £60-£90.

Also any security software is likely to be a trial as well. Length of time will vary from laptop make to make.

Anyway, PC security is MUCH more than anti virus so dont just put anti virus software on a laptop and think that is it for security.

I have no idea who AVG are, so I will continue to put my trust in Microsoft.

MSE is getting good reviews.

However Microsoft do have a poor reputation for both the security built in to Windows, and their attempts at providing security software in the past.

However I do run MSE, and there is an MSE2 in beta at the moment which is supposed to be even better.

The thing about MSE is that microsoft didn't really develop it (despite what they say)

They realised that they had a dreadful reputation for anti-virus software and also realised that they did not have the in house skills to do anything about it and they only had one more chance to release a credible AV solution, so they done their normal trick of simply buying out an existing company that developed anti virus software, chucked a load more cash at them for development and so was born MSE.
