Thank you for your interest Scotman but the machine is a 2 speed device which I'm told wouldn't run at the 2nd speed that's why it was given to our 'smithy' but the person who gave it to him cut nearly a dozen other wires to short 2" ends for some weird reason, they're now just sticking out of the side of the machine with no indication as to where they should go or what each one is for.
The 3 phase connections were also cut but they are obvious quite sepaerate and so no problem to restore but not knowing where all these others go to or what each and every one does makes it a bit difficult to explore what went wrong in the first place or decide if the connectivity of any of these connections was the problem in the first place.
I wouuld prefer to run this check first if possible because simply removing the motor as someone else suggested is not a casual operation.
