This is a hypothetical question related to something I'm writing, not something I'm proposing to do! If someone buys, for cash, a house in need of renovation without having a survey carried out, would they:
a) be able to get it insured?
b) have any exclusions on the policy?
c) if the answers to a) and b) are yes and no respectively, have problems when they make a claim for, for instance, dry rot discovered after the purchase and insurance?
A) Yes
B) Depends what perils you insure for but policies exclude gradually operating causes/wear and tear etc and dry rot/any mold or infestation would almost definately not be covered
