I believe the landlord should have building insurance. It's his/her property after all.

Your daughter will need her own contents insurance.
Landlord is responsible for building

well guys, thanks for being so quick..thats helped a lot...ta
she wont be able to get insurance on hte buildings anyway - she doesn't have an insurable interest in it
I'm sure that she doesn't have an insurance interest in the house will come as a surprise to her - given she is still the owner.

A little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing.
A little bit of knowledge is fine. It's a little bit of learning that is a dangerous thing
buildersmate she doesn't own the house. The OP said that.
I'm surprised she's allowed to sublet it at all.
Why surprised?

Buy to let is quite common and this may be the case.
The OP says it's not her house. She has a landlord already, so she is renting his house, not hers, so she hasn't bought to let. He has.
Or am I reading this wrong?
I think it should read...

//morning....My daughter is moving out & renting a house Even thou its not her house, does she need building insurance?? I understand she my need contents cover...or is it best to speak to her landlord?//
ohhh I see.
She she is moving into rented accommodation, not letting a house to someone else.
She just needs contents then I think, but I would still ask the landlord about it.
I read it the same as you FrogNog. The daughter is moving out of slocjo's house and renting her own house privately from someone else.

Some people shouldn't be so quick to be patronising!
HELLO, HELLO. it is not her house. She has a landlord.
