I am contemplating a trip from the UK via a stay in a second European country to Canada and back the same way and the insurance implications involved.
Single trip and annual policies are available but certain aspects of the trip (duration close to 50 days, age over 65, etc.) make finding a fitting policy at a reasonable price less than straight forward (I don't want EHIC Plus). However, because the medical and repatriation cost risk following an accident is the primary consideration, forced cancellation is secondary and the rest unimportant, I wonder if a travel accident policy is not all I need - but again I can't seem to find that type of cover either.
i use Flexicover.co.uk - annual policy includes
Cover available up to age 85
Independent travel at no extra cost
Choose from 4 levels of cover
Covers trips of 35, 50 or 100 days (subject to age)
No limit on the number of trips throughout the year
Optional cover for pre-existing medical conditions
Optional 17 days winter sports cover (max age 65)
Save even more with a family, couple or single parent family policy.
Thanks for the tip - however, their maximum trip duration is stated at 35 days according to the quotes I have (Europe and/or Worldwide). Back to square one.....
Look at changing your bank account to Nationwide - includes 31-day European travel insurance which can be extended to worldwide and extra days for a moderate sum upto 75 years old (I think - I'm 70 and I'm covered.
