my car was a cat d write in sept. i bought the car back from the insurer. my insurance is now up for renewal and i just want to insure it tpo. does the car need to have an mot certificate since the accident or a vic check done in order to insure it tpo. the original mot done before the accident is still running.

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.i have just looked on the vosa website and it seems the rules on write offs might have changed,if your insurance company has put a marker on the car,then it will need to be tested,check with the dvla if it has a marker on it,if it has then you will have to get it done,its only about �40. the test is really to make sure the car is the same one and has not been cut and shunt or ringed to another write off.
I work for an insurance company and can tell you that you will need to take your car for a new MOT as the underwriters will ask you to provide this (they will have the claim details on file and assume you are insuring a written-off car). This will also give you peace of mind that the car has been repaired correctly and is safe to drive.
