Am I covered
I rent a private flat, and have been in it for a year. I have now spotted a lovely flat which I would like to move into via the council. I held a house warming in the flat I am presently at, unfortunately cigarette burns have ruined the carpet, the burns are really severe. I did not realise until recently when I re-read the details of the flat that the flat is no smoking.
Will my insurance pay out for this (the Insurance Co was recommended by the letting agents) I have paid out a deposit of 590 of which I do not want to lose.
Somebody mentioned tip a bottle of red wine over the carpet they'll pay out for that. I'm not a dishonest person and I'm sure I would feel very uncomfortable, I really need to get a new carpet in, any body know how to get rid of ciggie burns??

Perhaps you could replace the carpet with a very cheap one - at Easter lots of places have "sales" with massive savings off carpets, suites, furniture - everything you can think of!
Seriously though, it might not cost as much as you think to replace it with a basic carpet, it the room is fairly small you may be able to get a cheap offcut.
Best of luck to you.
