Hi could anyone help me, I have just canceld my car insurance which had 7 months remaining, the company is Yes insurance, They said I dont owe them anything for canceling the policy. And there would be no refund for the remainder of the policy. I find this rather unfair, so basicaly I've paid 147.00 for 5 months insurance. Could anyone tell me if this is the norm or is there someone or a company i could contact to try and get some money back. I find this really weird, never heard of it before.
Yes Insurance state that a cancellation fee is payable unless the vehicle is written-off in a claim, in which case the full annual premium still has to be paid and any outstanding policy premium will still be due.
Most insurers use 7 months as the full payment norm - not 5 - so you should be due 2 months -trouble is car insurers are very Carte Blanche .However , even 7 months is as far as i'm concerned unlawful- why the Office of Fair Trading hasn't stopped this scandal is beyond me
