Jeep Cherokee on fire
Had the holiday from hell and then on the way home my Jeep Cherokee caught fire on the A9. Foolishly I put the fire out, hindsight says I should have let it burn to a crisp, drove it to nearest Jeep dealer in Inverness. On further inspection turned out a breather hose had split and set fire to insulation, the assessor at John Weir said it was a Turbo failure that caused the fire so the insurance wouldn't pay out. I inspected it again and this time started the engine which ran perfectly, went to speak to the assessor who reluctantly admitted he hadn't even attempted to start the car as he couldn't get the door open. Im now in a crap situation as insurance company believe the garage assessor who is a w******r and wont pay me out. What can I do and how much would an independent assessor cost as that is what the insurance co(N Union) want me to pay for.

The standard engineer's we use are, to coin a phrase, rubbish.
We pay up to 70.50 for them to essentially drive past a car and comment on it. If we instruct a tidy engineer for a thorough inspection (as would be required here), it could cost anywhere up to 500.
Companies I would recommend are Alan B. English, or Banwells (athough they are busy as hell) - google them for their contact details.

Thank you Gouldc think you have hit the nail on the head, so to speak. I was livid at the dealers when I got into the vehicle and it started and revved perfectly. Yes they are blaming mechanical breakdown and therefore voiding my claim. I have booked an engineer and he is going to give it an inspection and a follow up report. N/U have said that it may require engine removal and hence write it off, heres hoping.
