My wife and I are about to book a holiday for Turkey, our first since she had her lower leg amputated last September. Can anyone suggest a good ins.company that won't rip us off. I have so far had a quote from a medical (pre-existing conditions) company for over £900 for 2 weeks.

Several charities for people with disabilities and medical conditions provide a link to a specialist broker, Able2Travel, on their websites. I've posted this information before and several questioners have responded by saying that they've managed to get cover at reasonable prices through this broker, so they might be worth a try:

are you sure an amputated leg is actually a medical condition? Is it something that's likely to recur?

Anyway, Holiday Which mag has a pice on this in the current issue and it gives some specialist insurers to try:

I can't offer any personal recommendations, though.

Thanks for your replies, will certainly try the links quoted.

Jno i think the main problem at the moment is the question "have you had hospital treatment in the last 12 months, just prior to the amputation she had a Triple Vascular bypass to get more blood into her legs.
Some of the policies offered by shops are quite good these days, Tesco, Post Office - also my bank offers cover which I find good. However, obviously each will look at your wife's history inidivudally - certainly worth shopping around, £900 seems quite a lot for a fortnight.
