sole trader public liability insurance
3 Answers
Hello, I am soon to set up business as a sole trader. I will be supplying my labour at an hourly rate to a company contracted to a multinational company on short term contracts at various sites. I will invoice weekly & pay my paycheques into a business bank account, keeping it all separate to my personal finances.
I will have all the necessary safety passports etc and induction by the companies concerned and all the work will be on company premises.
My question is do I need to think about personal public liability insurance or will I be covered by the contracted company or multinational

Any contractor should be asking you for sight of your PL insurance before they contract with you, to ensure that anything you do while you are working for them is covered if something goes wrong. They are delegating the responsibility to you for the work - you will be an independent contractor working for them, not on their payroll, so you need your own cover in respect of your own activities.
