Qualifying as a teacher

What courses exactly do you have to do and how long does it take to become a fully qualified primary school teacher? I know someone who has just completed a NVQ 2 as a teaching assistant and wants to progress. What could she expect to earn once she has qualified? (in Yorkshire)

Basically she needs a degree- either
* a teaching degree or
*a degree in another subject plus a PGCE
