You may have heard of this before but it's still very useful knowledge
ABOUT BEE STINGS - A GREAT THING TO KNOW...
A couple of weeks ago, I was stung by both a bee working in the garden.
My arm swelled up, so I went to the doctor. The clinic gave me cream and an antihistamine. The next day the swelling was getting progressively worse, so I went to my regular doctor. The arm was infected and needed an antibiotic. The doctor told me - “The next time you get stung, put a penny on the bite for 15 minutes". That night, my niece was stung by two bees.. I looked at the bite and it had already started to swell. So,I taped a penny to her arm for 15 minutes. The next morning, there was no sign of a bite.
Wanted to share this marvellous information in case you experience the same problem. We need to keep a stock of pennies on hand. The doctor said that the copper in the penny counteracts the bite.
It definitely works! Please remember and pass this information on to your friends, children, and grandchildren.

I have to carry an Epipen for the adrenaline, but then the rush of adrenaline in turn sets my heart tachycardia problem off..... so it's a hospital job anyhow. If I last that long...!
So far, so good. ;-)
But, laura, I will remember that tip about the penny, thanks.

... in fact I've just found this on an Urban Myths site:

ah, okay I guess you must be allergic then. Understand now - thanks for the clarification. I'm not allergic but have to admit the swelling and discomfort is much more than I have had with other wasp stings. Have had a cold tea towel wrapped around it for about 12 hours and the heat coming off my hand is incredible - perhaps I should then use the tea towel to give myself a facial! Ah well -carry on with the ice packs.
As a pest controller for 13 years and stung by wasps and bees thousands of times and I have never heard of this. personally I think it is just a myth, I tend to to think that if this was true, the whole world would know about it, probably 70% of the bees & wasp nest jobs I went to had someone that had been stung, if this method actually worked, I'm sure just one of them would have known, or surely it would have been mentioned in one of the many courses I went on?
Many people get stung by wasps and bees and after the initial sting show no other symptoms, the only problem I ever had is the sting would itch like a bitch for a few days, and it is also normal for those that get stung and swell, for that swelling to go down quite quickly.
I think the fact that this is not public knowledge says it is just a myth and doesn't actually work, maybe a bit of placebo?
