12 turning 13
This is like lower school 2, I think.

So 12 at the start of the school year.

They'd have their 13th birthday during that school year.
"Second year" in old money ...
Seems to be about 12 years old according to..

http://en.wikipedia.o.../Education_in_England
2nd year in old money.
Currently they will be 13 or within seven weeks of reaching 13
sorry factor 30, you are wrong.
Youngest Junior O was 12 in March this year. He starts year 8 in September
I disagree Factor. I think they will mostly be 12.
Surely the only second years who are still 12 will be the ones whose 13th birthday is between now and the end of August.

So they will mostly be 13?
I'm talking about how old a current year 8 will be as at 9th July rather than how old they are when they started year 8 last September
When I was at school it all changed. It was either 1982 or 1983. Either way, I never had a 3rd year. I was a 4th year twice.
Good point Factor.
They will be 13 if their birthday was between last September and today.

They will still be 12 if their birthday is between tomorrow and the end of August.

I've had my goddaughter and two of her pals to stay this weekend.

They've just finished lower school 2 (= year 8), and they are all 13.
This is confused by the fact that although Junior O was classed as being in Year 7 until last week, because Year 9's have gone on transfer week, my boy is classed as being Year 8 from this week
For the avoidance of doubt, the oldest a child in Year Eight (like the idea of second form in old money!) can be is 13 on 1st Sep on entry. The youngest possible age is 13 on 31 Aug the following year. (Source: former Head of Year 8, previously second form schoolmaster)
My brian hurst ...
Apologies factor - you have made a good point
The ladyboy is showing off
We were all right in our own way- there were two different interpretations of the question
You're pushing it missus, aren't you? You just don't care. 'bout time you had a slap with a wet haddock!
In Scotland 7 years at primary school then move into secondary secondary school. My grandson going into 1st year of secondary (year 8 at comp?) school at age 11 going on 12.
