A few parents default on School Dinner debts, so the headmaster sends out a letter stating no meals for any child where the debt is more than 1p.

In order to justify this, and respond to complaints, he is then quoted as saying,"Any shortfall in the budget for school meals will have to be made up by the school which could mean fewer books and resources for all pupils because of debts run up by a few."

So he uses up these precious school funds sending out a letter to all parents - that must have cost the equivalent of quite a few "books and resources".

Surely paying for school dinners should be the parents' priority?
all school letter nowadays come by email, so no "cost" really. paper and stamps is so last century.
it's parent's job to feed kids, not schools. that article made me so angry - the dad moaning about owing 36p and getting a letter - just bloody pay it then you wont get a letter!
The letter was fine in principle but would of been far better to say 'all debts under £10'... rather than 'all debts over £0.01' which is the sort of things that annoy 'look at me' parents like this who like to be offended and give there children wrong prioritys instead of supporting the school and paying there way or asking for help rather than wingeing to the press
bob, what if the debt was £10.50?
Not sure why your asking that barry? The letter already sets out what will happen for debts over £10.
You suggested the letter should have said 'all debts under £10....', bob
//So he uses up these precious school funds sending out a letter to all parents - that must have cost the equivalent of quite a few "books and resources".// My guess is the cost was close to zero as sent either by parent mail so no paper copy or is given to pupils.
They have to inform people of what might happen. Otherwise the same people would complain ' why didnt they write to tell us...?' and some would ask whys the school not doing more to reduce the amount there owed
Barry you have got the wrong end of the stick. Read the schools letter and my post again
in addition some (most?) schools use outside companies, who incidentally really suffered through lockdown.
There are no circumstances elsewhere where youd ask a profit making company to provide you with a service for free
phew, i can sleep tonight now i know what marcus rashford thinks about it
