student grants & loans
2 Answers
my son is going to university in September 2007. I earn 16,000 per annum which means he would be able to claim the full bursary, grant and loan etc to support himself through uni. His father has not had contact with him since he was a baby and I was not made to secure maintenance payments from him due to his violent behaviour. i am living with a man who thinks further education is a waste of time and says he will not help with my sons fees. Will the authorities take his income into account when calculating my income for the means test? Will I have to separate from my partner to make sure my son will have the help he needs to get through uni?

I would suggest your partners income will be taken into account but it is definitely worth enquiring with the University to see if this is the case or not as your circumstances may be different, especially if you arent married. Best of luck!
