Graduate Teaching Programme

I'm currently working as a Maths teaching Assistant in a school even though i'm a recent graduate.  I started the Job in November just as a go-between whilst i decided what i wanted to do with the rest of my life (bit dramatic i know!)

The issue has been raised as to whether to re-employ me next year or not, and as the budget is tight they've said they probably won't be able to employ me as a teaching assistant but they can offer me a GTP teacher training course...was just wondering if people knew much about it, what sort of demands it has, what the pay would be like, whether i get paid for this summer if they employ me from september....etc!

I'm 21 years old, and working in South East london if that matters...

Is the GTP the scheme where you get paid a bursary of up to �6k a year and qualify as a teacher without doing the PGCE?

I am currently trying to get a place on the GTP. Basically you get paid a salary of at least �14,000 and you are taken on in a school to assist with teaching whilst you also complete the training. The process takes a year (if not less) and at the end of it you are a NQT! It sounds much better than the PGCE especially for people who are used to earning a wage and dont want to go back to being a skint student! Its quite a competitive way into teaching so if you've been offered a place I would grab it while you can! Good luck!
