Why should I work when if I don't I get all my rent paid council tax paid and £120 every two weeks ,

But if I work for min wage full time I would only end up with £30 a week for my self which ain't anoth to live on

I'm also starting college in September and if I don't work I will have it all paid for me but if I'm working there would be no chance off me going to college and trying to make a better life for me ,

BEFORE YOU ALL START GOING MAD I'M JUST SAYING THIS TO SHOW THAT FOR SOME A LIFE ON BENITFITS IS THE ONLY CHOICE

(sorry about spelling :))

why is it the only choice?
i dont see why someone who sees no point in working at all for such a reason should then be given a free place in college to supposedly better themselves? what if they decide theyll still be better off doing nothing?
Where do you want to be in 10 years time?
Calm down folks, it's a wind up.
If your only option was a job on minimum wages and you had £30 to live on after exes you'd think you'd be mad to work. But a job might lead to better things. A life on the dole never will.

Let me see where I wona be in 10 years a qualified nurse that's why I'm going to college .
sadly you are correct, If I hadn;'t knocked myself out 18 months ago after being made redundant I wouldn;t have a job now and I could sit at home all day and get my rent paid and council tax and probably live a very simple life with no stress and no worries about the cost of petrol and train fares.
But I think I would be bored. But I don't blame you at all, it is how it is,
financially its not worth you working.....can you do my accounts free ?

At the moment I can only get min wage jobs , and I can't afford to live of that.
I don't wona spend my life ON the dole, that's why I'm going to college but if I work for min wage I ain't going to be able to
what you're living on isn't "free". it's my money.

get some self-respect.
but surely a cv that shows that youve worked in the periods when not studying is easier to talk about than to explain why your CV has gaps?

Great answer dotty.
People don't understand what its like or less they've been in our shoes

Sara so you've never had any thing of the government
And long term unemployment brings things like mental illness, alcoholism, drug abuse, and social isolation You could soon reach a stage where even if you wanted to you couldn't work.
Life on the dole isn't a bed of roses
yes, Child Benefit and Child Tax Credits. I work full time and have done since I was 16.
I think katie is doing what she can given that she hasn't (I assume) gone down the having a baby to get benefits route, minimum wage if you are under 25 does not give you any working tax subsidy, I do not believe that anyone living off a single minimum wage can live very well, especially someone young. All they do is pay their bills, including travel expenses, it's a fact, it costs quite alot for people to go to work and by the time the tax and insurance is deducted, there won't be alot left.
I know what you mean, I've a friend who is much better off on benefits than if she worked - but it's a waste of a good brain. As sara says - it's our taxes pay your benefits, and ultimately our taxes which are paying your university fees on the pre-reg nursing course. You'll be a registered nurse in three years' time all being well - I sincerely hope you can get a job then, the NHS is shedding jobs hand over fist at the moment in an effort to save money. I understand where you're coming from, but it doesn't mean that the system is right.
Btw some of us who work full time don't have £30 left at the end of the week either...

People ain't getting the point here
I'M DON'T STAYING ON THE DOLE FOR LIFE IT'S JUST FOR NOW BECAUSE I CAN'T AFFORD TO WORK AND I'M SURE I WOULD BE MORE DEPRESSED WITH JUST £30 A WEEK TO LIVE OF
so why are you posting, what do you want us to say?
If you are going to college I hope they are going to help with your lack of spelling skills as well. It is important for nurses to be able to spell properly so charts are readable etc.

///But if I work for min wage full time I would only end up with £30 a week for my self which ain't anoth to live on ///

'anoth' isn't a word, I think you mean 'enough'.

Good luck with your studies.
It's called self esteem.
