I was due a parcel yesterday which was an Easter gift for a friend.
It never came and today I phoned them and they said it would come today.

Went in the garden for 5 minutes to put food on the bird table, and when I went back inside there was a leaflet telling me that they tried to delivery, and I can pick it up at the P/O before 2 pm today, (it was 2.10pm), or go online for a new delivery date from next Tuesday.

Ridiculous.

I don't think it's ridiculous. Posties can't be expected to wait around just in case someone is in the garden, shower, etc. It was just bad timing.

is there any way you can get to the local office before the end of today and try to collect the item?

Why can't you go to the Sorting Office on Saturday morning. Easter saturday is a normal day for Royal Mail.

They have amazing talents for knowing exactly when people are not there. My current postman has been giving me next doors mail. New people have moved in and when I went to put letters through their door my hand was stuck in rock hard bristles. No wonder postie sees me as soft option!

Even more ridiculous is that post boxes in Sainsburys and Tescos down here have been removed 'for cost cutting reasons,' apparently. One would have thought that a lot of folk are inconvenienced by this and that those boxes would have been pretty full......Great move by the Royal Snail.

If a Parcel Force driver stood at every door for 5 minutes when they didn't get an answer ... they would possibly only complete 20% of their daily deliveries ...(speaking from experience).

Customers have got every excuse and it usually contains .. "I was only out for 5 minutes and I've waited in all day".

I was given a present of a parcel delivery box from my brother. It is great. The only problem is with large parcels and dopey posture. A good thing to have.

I think all parcel delivery company's should follow in (is it udl) or something like that, send a text saying what time they will be within the hour.

Standard Delivery or Next day, but if you want a text you will need to pay for the premium service. Getting a text an hour before, means you don't have to hang around waiting all day.
I use DPD myself when I can, they text you the day before to say a parcel is on it's way and again an hour before it's due to be delivered.

I have twice "caught" a postie, not the same one, putting a card through the door saying that I should collect from the sorting office, when questioned one said that he thought that he had rung the bell and the other said that people were usually at work when he called and that the time allocated for deliveries did not allow for waiting at doors!
We now have deliveries by courier.
