Swollen ankles & feet - help!
hello everyone, it's been a while since i was on here but i've just passed 29 weeks now and all is going well apart from some backache which is pretty annoying sometimes and majorly swollen feet and ankles. i've been told to elevate my feet but i can't manage this at work! i leave for work at 6.30 and i'm on my feet or sat at a desk or driving till about 6pm when i get home. then i have things to do... is there any other way of not swelling up like the michellin man??? they're quite uncomfortable and looks horrible! thanks, Lorraine

water. Wear waist high support tights that help prevent the blood 'pooling' around the lower extremities and you do need to keep your feet elevated. If hands and face get puffy you should get it checked out. Good luck!!

Lorrymac, I can't really help I am afraid but just to let you know that you are not alone! I leave the house at 7am and get in around 5pm from, and, like everyone else, have the usual chores to do - although my fella does help as much as he can and I rest my feet as much as I can I still end up with feet and ankles Shrek would be proud of.
I did read that wearing a low heel can help with regard to backache, but even a small heel is giving me severe coccyx pain so I am in total flats at the moment (and have been since 23 weeks - I am now 27 weeks).
Isn't pregnancy a blast?!

awww isnt it lovely to see the trolls have advice too.
I know you say you have things to do when you get home lorry but try and rest as much as you can. Not everything needs doing at once, cut down on the housework and delegate the things the have to be done.
When youre at your desk, ensure that whilst typing your wrists arent taking any pressure and that they are comfy. Dont cross your legs when sat down. Is there any way you can raise your legs even slightly when sat at a desk?

Morning All!
My ankles usually go down overnight but haven't today and people at work are starting to freak me out a bit by saying that i need to see a doctor. I got home last night and did nothing but sit down and elevate my feet. my husband did all the chores and cooked tea. however, they've not gone down and i can press the skin down and it stays indented (but like a tempur mattress without the bounce back!). is this normal? should i be worried?
Natalie - I have been wearing flats for work for a few weeks! people were telling me that i was wobbling on my heels but it was something i was going to change over to anyway. i am still getting a pain in my lower back - like you say, in the coccyx area which feels like a trapped nerve. it comes and goes though.
hope everyone is feeling well this morning!

Lorraine,
I havnt a clue if this is normal or not but the best thing to do in any case is to phone the maternity ward at your hospital.
Describe it to them and they will tell you what youneed to do, either see midwife again, leave it, or go to ward for assessment.
Better safe than sorry and they wont mind you phoning.

Morning Lorraine, if you can see an indentation from your finger pressing on the swollen areas, its water retention. Im not sure what, if anything, can be done other than putting your feet up as much as possible so speak to your midwife about it to see what she can suggest. I was getting swelling that wouldnt go at around 28/29 weeks too but found that now I have had 3 weeks off over the christmas period, the swelling has totally gone and my ankles are actually looking quite normal again! lol
