As an English(wo)man, could I be subject to the potential £9k per year university fees in; Scotland, Wales or either parts of Ireland? (i'll be starting in September 2012, when the first year of fees rises will be) !!!!! ?????? I'm really confused, I asked my cousin whose in the year above me but she doesn't know cos she doesn't have to worry about it and already has easily achievable (for her) offers.

Scotland will declare soon but likely to be around 4 to 5......plus you have to allow for extra travel etc....

:( We feared I might. Isn't Scotland free to anyone that's scottish or from any part of the EU except England?

What about the fact i'm 1/4 scottish with a scottish last name, and I can do the accent!
Lots of students are going to Germany and Holland now to avoid the high fees. Might be worth throwing them into the mix?
forget the accent bit - you would have to take advice on a grandparent being a Jock - or Jockess and if that counts but I think that youhave to be resident for three years(?) minimum.
Molly - you do have pay to be trained - How on earth do you think you tutors would be paid

DTc, you're about! I know you were encouraging people to give money to the sea cadets for the boat, but did you by any chance send a donation in?
The commanding officer was confused and asked if I was part of a quiz/ puzzle forum or if i did the daily times crossword puzzle.
At that point I was confused myself but then I got home and realised that it was probably you. But I've been meaning to do a FTAO but there's no point when you're not about, plus I put this on the end of one of your threads but you haven't replied.

DTc I think you have to be at least half scottish and/or living in scotland for at least 3 years :(

Tony but is £9k necessary I don't mind paying some but I don't want to be in £2k debt (minimum) before i even have a proper job.
yes is the answer, molly, I am laughing at the prospect of your poor treasurer wondering about the source of all these donations big and small......she must thing you are half barmy, molly!
Molly, your universities will clarify it all to you when you start to enquire in more detail. I believe you have to be resident in Scotland to get a free uni place, not have a Scottish granny.
but can you do a highland fling ?

xx DTc, I was flumuxed at the time as they didn't say your 'name' she jsut asked if I was part of a quiz forum and if i did the daily time crossword xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Tambo I've been to a Ceilidh (kay-lee, yes I had to google it for the correct spelling)
Splitting hairs molly, it doesn't matter who your grandparent is, I am almost certain you (and your parents) have to live in Scotland in order to be eligible. Otherwise everyone with a tad of Scots blood in their veins would be hieing over the border.

>.<
what does that mean, molly..............?
how much has been donated now, Molly?
Question Author
We've had donations from my sponsored silence and people like the royal naval association and royal marines association and on thursday four or five AB donations had arrived (not MR by then :P). But I don't know if mine, the RNA and RMA moneys were after our new target of £1700. On the news it said we needed £1700 more but we already had about £500 so IDK now . . .
Yes still have to pay in Scotland. My brother was born in Edinburgh but my Nephew still has to pay up there
Question Author
It'd be nowhere near as much as I would be paying in England though :/
