self certificates??

hi was just wondering does anyone know if my employer will pay me if i sign myself off of work?? i need a week off sick but docs said i need to self certificate myself first but will i get paid for this??

Depends on your contract. You should get SSP in any case if you earn more than £93 per week.

in my company, self certificate for first 3 days, sick note after that if you want to get paid

It depends on your terms of employment and whether you are salaried or not, salaried employees do not always lose money for sick days, as in my case, as I am salaried and therefore not necessarily a 9-5.30 rigid rota, there is no deduction from salary for short term sickness absence

As you correctly said, Dotty, it depends on one's contract. Whether one is 'salaried' or not is entirely irrelevant.

In the NHS, you self certificate for the first 7 days (and are paid sick pay for those days), after which you must get a doctor's note if you are going carry on being paid. I believe that everyone has to self certificate for at least part of the absence - this link says it's seven for everyone.
