Hi there,

I'm 17 years old and still in sixth form. I am hoping to get a weekend job, and thought it might be quite interesting to work as a mechanic apprentice kind of thing. Have you ever heard of anything like this these days? I wouldn't expect to do big jobs, just the more basic ones, as I'm guessing more trainings needed for bigger jobs and the like. just wondered whether anyone knew if this kind of thing was possible and if it is whats the best way to get it, just go and talk to someone at local garages/call up/write letter or....

cheers

I know the Volkswagen Group (Volkswagen, Seat, Audi and Skoda) run an apprenticeship scheme but this is a full time course.  Your local career place should have info about this.

If you're just interested in working weekends at the moment then yes, I would go round your local garages and see if they are interested.

try connxions, they are really good for sorting out placements and could help you find a part time job that could lead to a qualification to compliment your studies
