In a few weeks' time, as part of a staff review, I will be moving to another department. I'm pleased because I bl##dy hate the place I'm working in right now. The manager has made my life hell for the past two years and at least one of my colleagues is giving her verbatim reports of everything I say and do when she's not there. So when I go, I'd like to leave them (and her especially) some sort of legacy. Short of altering/deleting a few files on the shared drive, however, I'm stuck for some subtle but impactful ways of reeking my revenge - possibly something that won't become evident immediately. Any ideas?
Well, Maggie, a colleague in another department did give me one idea in the event that they decide to buy me some sort of leaving present. He said instead of saying your piece in your 'acceptance' speech, just say thank you and then make sure you leave it in the bin before you leave. I like that.
Sorry, but I think that would just be rude. That would have no effect at all except build resentment with the people who donated, who might still then try to snipe at you when you have moved to the new department.
Just go, know that you are in the right, and be glad you have the opportunity to move somewhere else.
Honestly seriously if you are staying withe the same firm or even in the same industry don't do it. Btw any templates you created on firms time are their property not yours
write a .BAT script to rename all the files on an important directory (to them)their to something constant but include a variable in the name like the date and time. at the same time generate an inverse function so you can rename them back. Then some days run the first script and then at about 4pm run the second script to rename them all back. No data will be lost but they'll have a nightmare trying to find it. especially if you do it intermitantly.
with the prawn idea, you can ping off some keys from the keyboard and hide them under andf put the keys back.
If you do the script you could add it to their start up file and build in some random intelligence so it will rename one way or the other based on some arbitrary value, now that would be annoying!
I may just stick that prawn under her desk. Either that or set an old alarm watch to go off every day and then hide it.
Shifting the templates into my personal drive would be perfectly OK as they wouldn't be leaving the authority - just going with me to my new department. She's never used them to date because she's never covered my work for me in my absence as she's supposed to do. I doubt she'd even know where they're filed as it is. She's going to have to show someone else how to do my job so she's going to look pretty dim when she goes looking and can't find stuff. At the end of the day it's only the same as her filing office information on her personal drive
As I was saying, she stores office information on her personal drive so that if we want to know anything or refer to anything (ie non-confidential stuff), we have to ask her to look/print it for us, and that's how she holds her power.
