Just watched an interview on RTE with AWT, very impressed, no excuses, no trying to blame the past for his crime (as he called it).

Sat for 2 hours waiting for police (who were brilliant) to come.

I have nothing but admiration for the man who is struggling to understand why he did it

No. It was last weekend was the lost one. The day I can't tell cheese from Guinness is the day I'll stop eating cheese on toast. :-)

i really cant show any sympathy to the guy...he is a millionaire celebrity.. those are the last people on earth that should be stealing they put it down to stress and everything else under the sun,i along with millions of others are under stress my business is struggling at the moment,but never ever would i go into a shop and steal..the only remorse these people show is a feeling of self pity because they have been caught..anyway thats my rant for the evening over...so its goodnight from me...

Must admit I haven't followed this story that closely but if AWT is saying he didn't realise what he was doing because he's under a lot of stress then I do believe that's possible.
Lack of concentration and also being aware that you are well known and people are probably looking and saying 'Oh look who that is' I think it's possible to do what he did and not on purpose.

Thank you missprim, I was taken with markrae's comment on another thread that when he was randomly checked in Sainsburys after using the scanner, they discovered he had paid for two items twice

sibton I missed it was he on brendan o'connor? Wouldnt have minded watching it cause I was so bemused as to why he did it,I have to say I think the from your description sounds like good pr advice rather than him admitting his own failings,lets be honest if it was me or you helping ourselves at the self service checkout we would be before the courts.

sibton did you mean Mark paid for the items twice? If so, I think it goes to prove the things you can do because of lack of concentration.
