is it an urban myth or does one get a grant of £3K per year for 1st child in family who goes to Uni? Haven't seen anything anywhere, just a couple of guys @ work mumbling about it. Thanks

The answer is either no or 'very rarely'. Any grants would be means tested - there are no special provisions for the first child

thanks guys, I thought it a bit odd, but you do welcome any donations!
its irrelevant which child you are... but i got around a £1000 a term so yes 3k is about right

The maximum Maintenance Grant is £3,250 a year if your household income (student + parents) is under £25,000 pa.

A student loan will still be needed for tuition fees and any other loans
