Career Change to Health & Safety
9 Answers
I am considering the above - what qualifications do I need, and can I study at home? Am thinking a health & safety consultant/manager type role - would be open to any industry but imagine officeased roles would be a starting point rather than specific manufacturing or construction industries? Can anyone guide me?

i would have thought you would need at least a NEBOSH certificate. I think some places might do it distance learnng, but you still have to do a practical workplace assessment. You can do it in a 2 week chunk too. Your biggest problem is going to be getting someone to employ you with no experience probably. Why don't you call one of the H+S agancies (for example principal people) and ask them what kind of experience/quals their jobs are asking for?

As I searched on this topic I found that employers look for candidates that are kind, interested, who have ability to adapt to different situations. Speaking about the qualifications you need to have for doing this job CMIOSH is the most popular way of demonstrating that you are capable and knowledgeable. CMIOSH status gives access to the widest range of work and the most rewarding jobs (but it is not absolutely essential).
