i have to go to a meeting at the college I'll be attending next year, and they said if you're doing an art/design course, bring your portfolio. I'm doing photography but i dont have a portfolio yet, so...i have some questions if anyone can help!
does it just need to be like a photo album?
how many photos should be in it?
how should i set it out?
also...how big should the photos be?
thanks!

Best size photos for a portfolio is 8x10... so I've heard :-)

This is your chance to be creative!

I would imagine that you should include a variety of picture sizes and techniques (b/w colour etc etc).  Artwork is usually demonstrated in large sizes, perhaps if you have an A3 folder/booklet, you could arrange your photography in themes, depending on your preferred subject.

For example, you could have a few photos on one page showing a catwalk model type imagery in a variety of views/perspectives, on another you might have landscapes or wildlife, or some wedding photos, perhaps one amazing photograph on it's own page to emphasise it - it really depends on what you have photographed and where you see your photography going.

If you look at this site http://www.peterkrogh.com/ as an example, you can see that he breaks his art work down into themes.  Go on, dare to be different.

The best way to do this is by putting together a range of your best work in a portfolio, showing the things that you want to show off.  There is no right or wrong way to do it, there is only your way of doing it, which you feel comfortable and proud of.  The portfolio is supposed to be something that people can have a look at to get an idea of what you are about creatively.  If you imagine you are looking at someone else's portfolio, what would you like to see?  Have some fun, be creative and do it your way.
