Is it worth going for a part time permanent job then look for a full time or going for a temporary agency full job (full time) then look for a permanent job ?
I dont know what to do because on the part time permanent job, I would be getting around about £500 per month (3 days a week), whereas on the temp agency job (full time) I would be getting £200-£300 per week. I don't know which to consider in the interim until I get into a full time perm job.
Can anyone advise ? Sorry if it may sound confusing !
I would always go for more money. Are you worried that you may not have the time to look for another job, if you were working full time ? I am sure you could still look for something.
It will look much better to be in a full-time position when you go for an interview for your next job.
Hope this helps, I would be led by the money I earn.
Ask yourself if you could live on £500 a month for starters. Then have you asked what the possibilities are of the part time post becoming full time and similarly of the agency job becoming permanent? Where I work we now only recruit agency and then make them permanent if we want to keep them.
Yes, cos I realised that if i am going to be looking for a perm' full time in the end, then why would I go part time in the in the interim and earn about £500 a month when I could get a full time temp agency job earning up to £300 in a week and at the same time look for my perm' job ?
Having done both, the caveat about agency work is that some weeks they may not have work for you - then you get nothing for those weeks. Fine if you can get a long booking, but not every employer does that. Pick your agency with care if you are going to temp.
I think if I were you I'd take the p/t job and look for another p/t job for the other 2 days. You need to give the 3-day employer a fair go - it's not fair to take on a job then leave quickly when something better comes along (not good for the reference angle, or your c.v.).
Truth is, i did apply for that part time perm job long and actually got an interview on Monday, but yesterday I had calls from various agencies offering me roles - this got me thinking if its really worth going for the part time perm job when i can just do agency work get paid a weekly and then look further for perm job ?
It the part-time employer had a 2 day temp or perm role elsewhere in the company- it might make it worthwhile. They might not have this role but you never know... (if the 3 days is across the weekend then you could perhaps consider another position - but some p/t jobs are across different parts of the week so leaves you very stuck. Very possible I's day to do something else its just finding ways to work around it + that no conflict of interest!)
Could sound them out before committing to the agency work but I agree re the way you are thinking - not good to be stuck in a perm or tem role where you are struggling. But - make sure you get a commitment re the temp job before ending the p\t opportunity. Good luck.
