employment of minors

My daughter who is 11 has been offered a job at the newsagents next door. She will be asked to work from 7am till 8am on Saturdays and Sundays sorting out the newspaper (but not delivering them) she will be paid �2.50 per hour...so what I'm wondering is what are the laws if any of employment of minors

This is illegal - no child under the age of 13 may be employed in any capacity. Google "employment of young persons and children" for more info.

Children under the age of 13 may not as a general rule be employed. However, local authorities are able to grant a licence, allowing younger children to take part in paid performances, sports and modelling.

Licences for performances only cover acting or ballet, and need to be accompanied by a declaration that the part to be acted can only be taken by a child of that age, or that the performance is musical or consists only of opera and ballet.

illegal, but it will be the shopkeeper and not your daughter that will be taken to court over it. 13 and upwards they are allowed to work but times of day and number of hours they work are very strict.

as for child actors, they have work to strict times and hours per day and also have to have a parent or legal guardian with them at all times (off camera in terms of movies or tv)

well it is illegal, but I would also not recommend it, because I started off doing that for a friends paper shop, but then ended up delivering the papers at 8.pm because people had decided not to turn up to deliver them, dont let her get caught up like I did.
besides, �2.50 per hour is not a lot considering that she could be sorting out maybe about 400 newspapers, and it is only for around one hour anyway.
