I'd be very surprised if you could claim the tax back on something you haven't paid for. (I'm no expert though)
That's my answer too-you can't claim back what you haven't paid out.

sorry I did mean to say for the laundry of the uniform as I wash it
Maybe you could claim something against laundry costs.
I believe you can, if you can be bothered, claim an allowance for cleaning said uniform.
If the uniform was say, just a shirt/top/jacket supplied by Employer but they insisted that you also wore black trousers and black shoes supplied by you then you can, again, claim some sort of allowance.

yes - its about £80 a year - and I believe you can still backdate it if you have been with the company a while.
Well everyone, except strippers maybe, wears clothes in work. It could be considered a matter of choice whether you wash them or not.
Uniform tax rebate, [email protected]
If it is £80 a year that means you get £80 added to your tax allowance, not that you get an extra £80 in your pocket.

If you are a standard tax payer you get £16 per annum extra in your pay packet.
^ No need to use the company in that link- they will charge a fee.
Just do it yourself- see the gov.uk site
I find it a bit strange that if your company supplies your uniform - so you don't have to buy it - then you can claim laundry costs. However, if you're like myself and don't get a uniform provided then there's a good chance, that you buy clothes specifically for work, I know I do. So not only do you have to pay out for the clothes, but you also don't get any tax rebate on laundry. I'm not sure how that's fair.
yes you can claim a rebate against laundry of uniform ..oh did that..your union can supply the form usually..
It is a bit odd, spudqueen, but there are quite a few odd things in the tax system still (untaxed daily expenses for House of Lords, for example), but as the allowance is only £60 a year the tax relief is only £12 a year and assuming 1% of the workforce claims it then it costs HMRC only a few million pounds a year. It will probably just be left to at £60 a year as inflation eats away its real value
SPUD QUEEN you say you have bought clothes specifically to wear for work but can you say honestly that none of them could be worn outwith work?
