Hi. I am considering moving to India for a contract but have heard that moving INR back to the UK can be complicated. Any good advice anyone? As ever, loads of info onlin but nothing quite fits the bill.

Have you checked Paypal? It is widely used especially if you need to remit money instantly. You can convert your money to local currency on the platform and withdraw to your local bank account.
Try contacting an Indian bank that has branches in UK e.g. State Bank of India

rupees are a currency that cannot be taken out of the country so i dont know if you can change it to sterling before transferring it over although im sure this will be costly. There are money grams/orders and services like this but again you could end up paying quite a bit in fees.

make sure you've got the correct visa & working permits and anything else you need oh and your vaccinations/malaria tablets sorted well in advance

Hi Ben,

I would recommend using Western Union to transfer the money from India to the UK. There are strict regulations on how much you can send and how often to ensure that you aren't trying to money launder, but the website will give you all the info you need.
Most countries will have shops with the WU symbol on a projecting flag sign so look out for it. There is a charge, but like I say, take a peek at the website for the current rates:
