Can an employee legally request in writing that Personnel formally provide them with a valid reason for being unsuccessful after attending an interview for an internal vacancy?

Governing factors such as competency, experience and specific qualifications were fully compliant with the position's requirements.

I think (forgetting the legalities) that you would be within your rights to be informed of where you failed in the selection process so that you can work to improve your skills for the next occasion.

Perhaps a meeting with your line manager or the dept head for that particular role.

sometimes, someone else just fits the bill better. Not getting a job doesn't mean there is something wrong with you, that you failed, just that they felt someone else was as good or even and little bit more qualified than you. They probably had a lot of applicants who all feel that they should get the job and want to know why they didn't. don't take it personally unless you think that the people involved have a personal grievance against you

A lot of firms state in their internal vacancies that you have no right of appeal, but I'm sure if rather than take this tack, you asked HR for feedback on your CV and interview technique they would be more than happy to help you prepare better for next time. After all they have invested a lot in employing you and you are valuable to the company.
