savages!
Right on cue :-)
Brietbart take a story of backyard-butchering in Dagenham and conflate it with barbaric practices elsewhere on the globe complete with gory pictures.

Of course they do.....not much of a story, otherwise, is there?

Well said JTH. Looks like some are ready and willing to be be led by the ring which the journos put through their noses.
Monsters!!

Why we permit this barbaric practice in the UK is beyond me.
Of you read the article, there’s zero evidence that the animal was slaughtered at the house. There’s also zero evidence that it was slaughtered as a sacrifice.
Forget back street 'butchery.... a lot of supermarket meat now is killed using Halhal methods and a lot of fast food outlets ( notably KFC) only use halal meat. People's outrage could be channeled into getting the whole practice of halal outlawed in Britain. I would urge people to look at the Compassion in World Farming website concerning this issue, or join one of the many organisations actively trying to stop this exceptionally cruel and unnecessary method of slaughter.
AuntLydia. How come you are not similarly outraged regarding Kosher method of slaughter?
It doesn't matter if it was slaughtered in a telephone box or if it was slaughtered as a practical joke. What matters is that it was slaughtered in a hideously inhumane manner. (post at 1421)
Animals slaughtered for religious ceremonies......anyone ever had a Turkey, or Goose or joint of beef at Christmas? Yes, I know halal methods weren’t used but let’s not pretend we’re innocent, eh?
I am sure I am not alone (as a meat-eater) in wishing that there could be a great deal more humane treatment of those animals which end up on our dinner-plates; right through from birth to death.

Halal and Kosher butchery both fall well below any minimum standards I would like to see.
However, I'll say it again, there in *no* evidence that the animal/s in the Dagenham backyard had been killed there.
Where does it say that that photo is the same back garden? It doesn't, does it? Totally different location...but everyone is happy to see something that isnt there. Nothing like a bit of hysteria.
sanmac: I'm not in anyway condoning what happened but no one knows how the animal they were cutting up died -its all speculation. Most probably it was killed in a slaughterhouse using halal methods, and the next meal you eat (unless you are vegetarian) could have been killed the same way as halal meat is all over the Supermarket shelves.
AntLydia, Have you an answer to my post at 14.25?
Tescos sell Halal but it is marked as such.
I would think the vast majority of people would rather see the back of halal and kosher meat...but tough luck, pandering to majorities just ain't right.
