Myself n Husb are going to resign (we work together in a joint / shared role)

Wld you put your reasons for leaving in the letter?

I was planning not to.

We are leaving because we are unhappy in the job.

I’ll obviously be polite and tactful and both of us wlll work diligently until final day

No. You can cover your reasons in the "exit interview" if you have one, and if you want to.

Shall I tell them part deux - no - you are going - they are clearly not interested in keeping you.

( my gt nephew who is into internet hacking and cybersecurity keeps on getting pay rises ( + car + motorbike + .....)

I cost my employer £250 000 for their unlawful activity ( not payable to me unfortunately chiz chizz). They were so uninterested in saving any money I thought - god someone else can do this again in a year or two

I would emphasise your intended future, rather than your experiences of the past. Accentuate the positive.
I would gloss over your unhappiness, and move on wishing them well. You never know...

ellips - if they were interested in fripperies like exit interviews they would have attended to the problems that caused the leaving

I had in the er sort of leaving interview
" why dont you just fire me?"
" The old men ( that would be me, reader) can do anything"

I didnt stay - - that is not we had a licence to do anything but if he said build a nuclear bomb we would say - OK, where?

Say nothing about your real reasons either in your letter or in your exit interview. You never know who might be contacting your current employer in the future for references and there are ways and means of giving poor ones. Leave on a positive note. David gives good advice.

I see nothing wrong in giving written reasons for the resignation. At least that way, the reasons are there for others to see.

Reasons given in an interview might not be reflected in a record of that interview.

data protection - you can demand references.... people do.

if you can bear the details of being shafted Canary I wd be interested. Having been an employer having had a wonkey reference for a candidate - you can always ask what it was about.

As an employer I limited myself to the american system - was he an employee, what is his health record and would you employ him again ( yes or no)

but this is not about future refs ( or even ref guarding )

These days I would indeed have this protection, but this was way back in 1971, and I although the signs were there during the 6 months I spent on the dole, I only got positive proof 2 jobs later - I decided not to pursue it as Discretion is the better part of Valour and I doubt if the Courts would have supported me at that time anyway.

My brudda was interviewed and they said ( Norwich Hosp 1980) - the only reason why you are here is to learn that you should NOT use one of your referees.....
references are NOT meant to be read until AFTER the interview

Resigned today. 3 months notice. Haven’t got another role yet so a bit scary but it had to be done.

Life is short - no use “complaining if ya remaining”

good luck, eve. Resigning without another job to go to tomorrow is like retiring, you have to play it by ear; but figure out your strengths and look for work where you can use them.
