Long-term unemployment is usually a period of more than twelve month so if a person has been unemployment for a year and has a disability, they would be long-term unemployed and have a disability.

In some parts of society it has become the norm for multi generations to remain on benefits and not seek employment, the obvious advantages in going down the disability route are a) you also get addition specific benefits on top of your standard ones
B) you are not required to look for employment
The usual reasons given tend to be back problems, anxiety , depression, and anything else where it is hard to get a definitive diagnosis.
