(I'm assuming your daughter was an employee (e.g. not a contractor), was not on a fixed term contract which has just expired and was not summarily dismissed for reasons of conduct etc?) Your daughter should tell her employer she is entitled to one week's notice (or, of course, she can accept payment in lieu of notice).
Miss Z is right as far as notice periods go but this should be in her contract because it can vary.
The other reason they may have asked her to leave and its not to the detriment of your daughter, is to protect information she may be able to take with her especially if she was leaving to go to a rival. Its quite common practice and nothing to be shocked at.
