my cat ans fleas

Our house became infested by fleas from our cat. We had taken it in as stray, had it Frontlined but stupidly lapsed with it, hence the fleas. Anyway, we had to have the house sprayed twice with the cans - didn't get rid of them all, and then once by the council fumigation dept. It was a serious problem, fleas all over our legs, on our beds, EVERYWHERE, we had to leave the house for a few days, have the carpets ripped up etc, all our beds had to be sprayed, the full number. So we decided we could no longer keep the cat and found him a place in a really good cat sanctuary, it is lovely, and we have visited him there but I want him back. Thing is I cannot put the family through all the upheaval of a flea infestation again. The vet said even with Frontline, the cat can bring fleas into the house, but they can't feed on him. Is there anyone out there who can give me any advice? I want him back. But can't cope with another flea invasion.

Teatree apparently does the job as it pongs to high heavens, the trick is tho catching the cat and him letting you use the teatree oil ... fun or what. I had a cat like that but it was only me that got bitten, not my hubby (he wasnt tasty enough). We used a 'flea bomb', you light it and flee (flea lol) for several hours while it wipes out the buggas

Frontline can't stop fleas jumping onto your cat but kills them within 24 hours, before they have chance to lay any eggs.

My cat had fleas a few years ago but now I treat him regularly and have had no further problem. The original fleas did take a few weeks to get rid of (must of been in the pupate stage, as mention on the link) but once gone they have never been back.

Yeh fleas are a real problem. I have 2 cats and one of them reacts really bad to Frontline. The other one is ok and I have managed to get rid of fleas at the moment, I use a flea comb and have not found any of the blighters now for a couple of years. Once they get into your house it is the devil of a job to get rid. If your cat is young it will be a hunter and cats get most of their fleas fron prey i.e. birds and mice etc. At the moment Frontline Combo is the most affective solution, any vets on here might wish to add to this.
