Hi, does anyone know what the position is if you've been told you'll be made redundant by the end of the year (for definite), but in the meantime you go for a job interview elsewhere and they offer you the position. Are you still entitled to redundancy because they've actually officially informed you about it. Or is everything null and void if you leave before the redundancy date?
I think that if you leave your current employment before your contract ends, you will forfeit any redundancy payout due to you.
I was in a similar position earlier this year, and was told explicitly that I had to see out my contract in order to get the redundancy settlement; but if I left before that, I'd get nothing.
I was in as similar position a few years ago. My employer was very good and agreed that if we found alternative employment before the official date of redundancy, we would still get our redundancy money.
However, I think that this is down to individual employers and not law.
Do you know how much redundancy payment you will get, the statutory requirement is pretty rubbish to be honest (unless you have been there 20-30 years).
How long have you been in the job? The statutory requirement is something like 0.5 weeks pay for every year you have been there and you only get something if you have been there for 2 years or more.
In other words I'd find out if you would actually get anything worth sticking around for.
agree with the previous poster I mean which job do you like best ? is the new job very nice might be worth leaving now and getting on with it instead of trying to play your cards out and hope you still have a new job but I'm no expert in these matters
